PURPOSE: To obtain a anthraquinone pigment represented by a specified structural formula and suited for use in a polarizing film prepared by using a hydrophobic film as a base film.
CONSTITUTION: This anthraquinone pigment is represented by formula I, wherein Q1 and Q2 are each a substituted or unsubstituted anthraquinonyl group, Z1 and Z2 are each a bonding group, A is an aromatic bifunctional group, and n is 0 or 1. Desirable groups represented by Z1 and Z2 are -N=CH-, -CH=CH-, -COO- and -CONH-. At least one kind of said pigments is added to a hydrophobic resin, and the mixture is formed into a polarizing film. Said hydrophobic resin is suitably a hydrophilic group-free linear structure, and is preferably one having thermoplasticity (e.g., aromatic polyester resin).
