PURPOSE: To use protein polysaccharide, especially krestin well-known as an antitumor agent derived from Basidiomyces belonging to the genus Coriolus versicolor as an anti-inflammatory agent by an inhibitory action on carrageenan edema, inhibitory action on granuloma, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Protein polysaccharide, especially krestin, an extract of cultivated mycelium or fruit body of Basidiomyces belonging to the genus Coriolus versicolor with hot water or an alkali solution, containing about 18W38wt% protein, having 5,000W300,000 molecular weight (ultracentrifugation method) is used as an anti-inflammatory agent. Krestin is well-known as an antitumor agent, and it is found to have an anti-inflammatory action besides an antitumor action. Namely, it has an inhibitory action on carrageenan edema, inhibitory action on granuloma, antiexudative action, and inhibitory action on adjuvant arthritis, and is useful as an anti-inflammatory agent. It has a synergistic action with another anti-inflammatory agent. It has low toxicity and almost no side effect. An oral dose is preferably 20W600mg/kg/day.
