NEW MATERIAL: Compounds represented by the formula I (wherein: (q) is 1; (k) is 0; (p) is 1; Ar is a phenyl group optionally substituted by a 1-4C alkyl group or a halogen; L is -O-; Ar' is a 1,3- or 1,4-phenylene group; Y is (E)-CH= CH-; V is H or a 1-4C alkyl group; W is a 1-4C alkyl group; and Q is a group represented by the formula II ((m) is 1; R1 is H; and R2 is H or a 1-4C alkyl group)).

EXAMPLE: (E)-N-(1-methyl-3-(3-phenoxyphenyl)prop-2-enyl)acetohydroxamic acid.

USE: Parmaceutical compositions which have lipoxygenase- and cycloxygenase- inhibitory activity and are useful as anti-inflammatory agents, etc.

PREPARATION: Such a compound represented by the formula I is prepared by allowing a compound represented by the formula R9N(OZ1)H (wherein: R9 is a group represented by the formula III; and Z1 is H or a protecting group) to react with an acylating agent and then, if necessary, releasing the protected group of the reaction product.
