To provide an antibacterial agent for oral cavities, which contains an ingredient originated from a natural product and has excellent antibacterial potency against intraoral bacteria, especially dental caries-causing bacteria and periodontal disease-related bacteria living in oral cavities, and to provide a composition for oral cavities, containing the antibacterial agent.
This antibacterial agent for the oral cavities contains 8(17),12,14-labdatrien-19-oic acid as an active ingredient. The antibacterial agent for the oral cavities is excellent in antibacterial activity against intraoral bacteria, especially periodontal disease-related bacteria and dental caries-causing bacteria, such as Actinomyces viscosus or Streptococcus mutans, and is safe for human bodies because of being originated from natural products. The composition for the oral cavities, containing the antibacterial agent, is effective for preventing or treating oral cavity diseases such as dental caries and various periodontal diseases, and enables effective oral cavity hygiene.
