Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new compound exhibiting excellent activity especially against Pseudomonas aeruginosa as an antibacterial agent, usable at a low concentration and useful as a medical antibacterial agent applicable even to the mucosa.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I (n is 3-10). The compound can be produced by reacting a 1,n-bis(N3-cyano-N1-guanidino)alkane of formula II with 4-aminobenzotrifluoride hydrochloride of formula III in a solvent (e.g. 2-ethoxyethanol) and treating the reaction product with an alkali. The starting compound of formula II is obtained by the reaction of a diamine with sodium dicyanamide. The amount of the compound of formula III is 2 equivalent or small excess to the compound of formula II. The width of the antibacterial spectrum of the compound is comparable to that of chlorhexidine which is a known antibacterial disinfectant. The agent exhibits excellent quick action and is applicable even to the mucosa to which the application of chlorhexidine is inhibited.
