To obtain antibacterial polymer particles which can effectively reveal high antibacterial activity over a long period of time and can control the environmental pollution due to metal components.
An antibacterial organic component containing at least one atom selected from an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom and a sulfur atom is carried on polymer particles through chemical bonding to give the antibacterial polymer particles. An antibacterial metal component comprising a metal ion or a metal compound may be combined with the antibacterial organic component through coordinate bond for carrying on the polymer particles. The antibacterial organic component may be a mildewproofing agent comprising an imidazole having a thiazolyl group. The antibacterial metal component may be a metal component containing silver, copper or the like. Because of high compatibility with a resin, the antibacterial polymer particles are useful for an antibacterial resin composition (e.g. a resin composition for coating).
