NEW MATERIAL: Polypeptide compositions, containing active polypeptide components, eluted in a 20-26% n-propanol fraction in an aqueous 0.1 M trifluoroacetic acid -n-propanol, of 8-18 kDal, suppressing the growth of tumors or T cells and found in the brain of mammals, or antibodies capable of combining with a physiologically active fragment and prepared by responding to this component or the immune source fragments of them.
USE: A reagent for purification and measurement of cerebral factors.
PROCESS: For example, a cerebral factor extracted from the brain of a cow in a usual method is doped to rats with a perfect Freund adjuvant and immunized, followed by repeated additional dosage using an imperfect Freund adjuvant every two weeks and screening antibody by a test sampling of the blood. After confirming the production of the antibody, antiserum containing antibody against the cerebral factor is obtained by isolating the serum from the blood sample.
