PURPOSE: To provide a new antifouling coating composition containing a specific alkylphenoxybissilyl derivative, having low toxicity and high safety, exhibiting strong antifouling effect and useful for the coating of ship, marine construction, fishing net, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The composition contains an alkylphenoxybissilyl derivative of formula (X is H, OH, 1-5C alkyl or phenoxy substituted with 7-12C chain alkyl; at least one of X is phenoxy substituted with 7-12C chain alkyl; n is 1-10). The amount of the compound in the nonvolatile component of the composition is preferably 5-100%. The compound of formula can be produced e.g. by the dealcoholation reaction of a bissilyl compound such as 1,6-bis(trimethoxysilyl) hexane with a phenol substituted with 7-12C chain alkyl such as nonylphenol.
