PURPOSE: To obtain an antifungal agent, which is a volatile ingredient, composed of an extract of propolis with a solvent such as an alcohol or hexane due to its ability to suppress the growth of molds by covering a substance such as a food readily growing the molds therewith and usable by its arrangement near the food.

CONSTITUTION: This antifungal agent is composed of a solvent extract prepared by extracting propolis (i.e., bees wax) with a solvent such as an alcohol or hexane. The antifungal agent is used by a coconut shell active carbon therewith and arranging the impregnated active carbon in a refrigerator or housing the active carbon in an air-permeable small bag and placing the small bag containing the active carbon in a food packaging bag or impregnating paper with the antifungal agent, evaporating the extracting solvent and using the resultant paper as packaging paper, etc.
