PURPOSE: To obtain an antimicrobial agent containing a compound such as 2-[3-methyl-4-(1-methyl-2-piperidyl)methoxy-2-pyridyl]methylthio-1H-benzimidazole as an active ingredient and effective against a bacterium belonging to the genus Campylobacter.
CONSTITUTION: The antimicrobial agent containing a compound expressed by formula I [R1 is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, etc.; X is S, SO or SO2; R2 and R3 are H, halogen or alkyl; (n) is 0 or 1-8; L is N(R4)R5 (R4 and R5 are H, alkyl, phenyl, aralkyl, etc., or R4 and R5 form heterocycle together with adjacent N), formula II (R6 is H, alkyl, etc.; Z is methylene, O or S; (l) and (m) are 0-3), etc.] or pharmaceutically permeable salt thereof. The antimicrobial agent is especially effective against a bacterium belonging to the genus Campylobacter which is a gram-negative and slightly aerobic bacterium.
