To obtain the subject application solution which possesses excellent diffusion-permeability from the surface of various articles to the inside of the surface layer and application property to the surface of the articles and can homogeneously form the antimicrobial layer with excellent durability on the surface of the articles by including particulate silver with an average article size of a specific value or less.
This application solution comprises particulate silver (metal silver or silver ion) with an average particle size of 50 nm or smaller, preferably 5 nm or smaller (in an amount of 5 wt.% or less in the case that the particulate silver is metal silver), preferably in addition, an organic solvent (e.g. alcohols, cellosolves, ketones, ethers), a soluble organic acid salt (e.g. sodium citrate or the like), sodium condensed phosphate, sodium thiosulfate, ammonia, a soluble or emulsion-type organic resin (e.g. a water-soluble acrylic resin or the like) or a surfactant and further preferably sodium condensed phosphate and cellosolve.
