Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a non-toxic, antimicrobial quaternary ammonium group- containing polymer giving a liquid composition useful in cleaning and disinfecting contact lenses by incorporating a specific repeating monomer unit into its structure to form an aqueous solution.
CONSTITUTION: A repeating monomer unit represented by the formula [wherein R1-3 are each H, a 1-7C alkyl, COOR13 (wherein R13 is H or a 1-4C alkyl); z1-2 are each 0 or 1; La is -C(O)O-, -(O)N(Ra) or a bond; La1 is La, -O-, -O-C(O)O- or -N(Ra)C(O)N(Ra)- or -N(Ra)C(O)O- (wherein Ra is H or a 1-8C alkyl); R10 is a 1-20C aliphatic group, 3-25C alicyclic group, 6-20C aryl or the like and each divalent; R4 and R7 are each a 2-10C aliphatic group or the like; y is 1-10; R5-6 are each a 1-8C alkyl, 6-25C aryl or the like; R8-9 are each a 1-24C alkyl, 3-24C alicyclic or the like; and X is an ophthalmologically acceptable counterion, preferably a halogen, hydroxyl or the like] is incorporated into the structure of a desired polymer.
