To obtain a new antimicrobial substance capable of exhibiting antimicrobial action even on disease-causing microorganisms against which the existing antimicrobial substance is not entirely effective.
This antimicrobial substance BE-65932 is a compound expressed by the formula or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, and has the following physicochemical properties: (1) being white powder or solid; (2) having the molecular formula: C24H31O11N5; (3) having a specific rotation [α]20D+71.4 (c 1.0, MeOH); (4) capability of easily dissolving in an organic solvent (e.g. methanol, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), or the like) and water, and being difficult to dissolve in chloroform; (5) having basicity; (6) being positive in color reactions of test of readily carbonizable substances and phosphomolybdic acid reaction, or the like. The substance of the formula is obtained by incubating microorganisms belonging to Streptomyces and capable of producing the compound of the formula (pref. streptomyces sp. A 65932 or its variant) and by collecting the compound of the formula from cultures, and is useful as an antimicrobial agent against disease caused by various kinds of microorganisms.
