PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a compound of the formula (1) by reaction between supercritical water and a sea algal extract comprising polyphenol polymers. SOLUTION: This antioxidant, an oligomerized polyphenol having antioxidative activity, is obtained from a sea algal extract comprising high- molecular polyphenols through decomposition reaction process using supercritical water. The compound of the formula (1) thus obtained, a dibenzofuran derivative, has antioxidative activity, therefore can be utilized as an antioxidant to be formulated in drinks, foods, cosmetics, medicaments and the like.
