Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: The compd. of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H, lower alkyl or lower acyl; R3 and R4 are O to which both are together double bonded or H to which both are single bonded or OH).
EXAMPLE: The compd. of formula II.
USE: An antitumor agent and antiviral agent.
PROCESS: Extraction is first executed by immersing marine organism, i.e., the marine sponge Spongia sp. into an org. solvent (adequately ethyl acetate, etc.). The extract is then usually thickened and is then subjected to fractionation by countercurrent chromatography using a suitable solvent system; for example, a solvent mixture composed of ethyl acetae/heptane/methanol/water = 7:4:4:3, etc.
