Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the height of a backrest to be fixed only by elevating the backrest to a desired height and releasing it.
SOLUTION: This apparatus for adjusting the height of a backrest has a backrest vertically movably attached to a backrest support 3 fixed on the side of a seat body. In this case, there are provided annular circulation grooves 8, 9 composed of forward passages 13, 15 and backward passage 14, 16 provided approximately vertically in one of the backrest support 3 or the backrest, a plurality of engaging recesses 21, 22 that are provided on one side of the forward passages 13, 15 of the circulation grooves 8, 9 and function as stoppers in the direction where the backrests is lowered but do not function as stoppers in the direction where the backrest is elevated, and engaging pins 6, 7 that are attached swingably to either of the backrest support 3 or the backrest, can be circularly moved relatively in one direction in the circulation grooves 8, 9, and are energized at all times toward the engaging recesses 21, 22. Thus, the engagement of the engaging pins 6, 7 and the engaging recesses 21, 22 causes the backrest to be fixed to the backrest support 3.
