PURPOSE: To enable gradually compressing a bunch of articles in a continuous packaging of the articles so as to make the packaging operation efficient by providing a compressing device and a packaging device, the former device designed to gradually compress a bunch of articles at the packaging step between a supply station and a discharge station and the latter device designed to package the compressed bunch of articles.

CONSTITUTION: When a holder unit 4 provided at a rotary body 2 comes to its place at a supply station 5, the supply station 5 supplies to the holder unit 4 a bunch of articles 3 as prescribed that have been collected there. The holder unit 4 now supplied with articles 3a travels to a discharge station 6 while being rotated by intermittent rotation of the rotary body 2. While traveling from the supply station 5 to the discharge station 6, the bunch of articles 3 undergo gradual compression for a specific length of time with a compressing device 7 therefor provided at the holder unit 4. Upon reaching the discharge station 6, the compressed bunch of articles 3 are discharged and then transferred to a packaging device 8 to be done up in a single package.
