PURPOSE: To prevent the movement of a carriage when a power supply is closed in such a case that the power supply is re-closed in order to carry out paper feed operation for the purpose of removing paper jamming by providing a means for moving the carriage in order to confirm the position of the carriage prior to the operation of the carriage when there is a command for moving the carriage for the first time after the power supply is closed.

CONSTITUTION: A carriage position control means 15 receives a movement command signal 14 to be operated to move a carriage to an indicated position at indicated speed. The movement of the carriage due to the carriage position control means 15 is used in usual printing or the centering of the carriage. When a power supply is closed, a carriage position confirming and starting control means 5 is initialized by the reset signal 4 generated by a power supply closing reset means 3 and the movement command signal from a carriage movement command control means 11 is regarded as the first carriage movement command after resetting and a carriage position confirming completion signal 24 is also reset.
