To provide a method and an apparatus for efficiently and surely cutting a fiber strand even when the diameter of the fiber strand is relatively large such as about several cm.

The fiber strand is cut. In the process, one end of the fiber strand is held with a holding part and the fiber strand is withdrawn into a processing position by moving the holding part. Both ends of the fiber strand are fixed and one end thereof is rotated with the withdrawing axis as the center to thereby twist the fiber stand and strengthen the mutual binding force of each single fiber. The fiber strand before and after parts for cutting the twisted fiber strand is compressed and fixed and then cut with the cutting part moved toward the fiber strand. Thereby, even a fiber strand having a relatively large diameter is surely cut.
