To decrease labor for making waste wood into small pieces, to save labor for scrapping gears of inferior quality, and to make an apparatus for making the waste wood into small pieces inexpensive.

The apparatus consists of a cutting mechanism 1 and grinding mechanism 21 and 41. The cutting mechanism 1 is provided with a feeding hole 3 at the top end of a machine body 2 and a falling-down hole 4 at the bottom end and a chain saw 6 is provided in the machine body 2 and when waste woods are fed into the feeding hole 4, the waste woods are cut by means of the chain saw 6 and fall down from the falling-down hole 4. In the grinding mechanisms 21 and 41, inlets 23 and 44 are provided on the top ends of the machine bodies 22 and 42 and falling-down holes 24 and 45 are provided on the bottom ends and a plurality of gears 26, 32 and 47 are provided so as to be placed oppositely and rotatably driven in the machine bodies 22 and 42 and shortened waste woods falling down from the cutting mechanism 1 fall down among the gears 26, 32 and 47 through the inlets 23 and 44 and they are pinched among rotating gears 26, 32 and 47 and ground thereby into samll pieces, which fall down from the falling-down holes 24 and 45.
