To provide an apparatus for melting a metal capable of vacuum melting or refining the metal with high productivity at a low facility cost with a compact structure.
The apparatus for melting a metal comprises a structure in which a sealable and non-conductive sealing skin 16 is provided on an outer periphery of a refractory wall 12 to hermetically seal a body 10, a vertical water-cooled copper pipe 7 is closely arranged at a prescribed interval with each other along an inner periphery of the skin 16, an induction heating coil 38 is arranged on the outer periphery of the body 10 so as to surround the body 10, and the body 10 is fixed to a frame 42 on the skin 16 and reinforced by the frame 42. In the body 10, the skin 16 is fixed to the frame via upper and lower flanges 44 and 28 at upper and lower ends.
