To provide an apparatus and method of controlling a leg length of a hairpin tube such that the leg length of a hairpin tube is accurately measured and that adjustment is possible to make the length come within a tolerance, and also to provide a mechanism and method of bending a tube.
A first reciprocating driving member (23) for driving a hairpin tube is provided with a tube engaging reciprocating member (64) for engaging with the first end part of a tube (through a sleeve (18)). This tube engaging reciprocating member is made to be selectively adjustable in position relative to the first reciprocating driving member. In addition, a control means is provided which measures the position of the first end part of the tube, which discriminates whether this position is within a prescribed range and which, if outside the range, adjusts the position of the first end part of the tube by moving the tube engaging reciprocating member.
