To generate a model allowing for automatically determining a ductile or brittle plane of a fractured surface from a macro fractured-surface image easily obtainable.SOLUTION: There is provided a fractured-surface characteristic area determining model generating apparatus that comprises a model generating section that generates a fractured-surface characteristic area determining model to determine a characteristic area in a fractured-surface image by machine learning using as learned data a plurality of data in which a fractured-surface image of a material is associated with information representative of a position of a characteristic area in a fractured-surface image and an output section that outputs a fractured-surface characteristic area determining model.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
