Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly obtain a thermal diffusion coefficient in a simple method, by measuring a movement of heat between two points separated from a heat source, not the transfer of heat from a point where the heat is applied to a measurement point.
SOLUTION: A sample stage 15 is formed of a material of poor thermal conductivity. A cloth is attached on the sample stage for the purpose of heat insulation. The sample stage is adjusted in position by a lift mechanism. A sample 11 to be measured is placed on the sample stage 15 which is brought in touch with thermocouples 12 and 13 by the lift mechanism. A wire of a small diameter is used for the thermocouples 12 and 13 to enhance heat responsivity. The thermocouples are spaced via a predetermined distance. Outputs of the thermocouples are inputted directly to a two-pen recorder. While a recording paper of the recorder is sent at a constant speed, a heater 14 is brought in touch with the sample 11 for only a moment and immediately separated. A position where the sample is brought in touch with the heater 14 is determined beforehand. As a result, two curves are plotted at the recorder. A time difference when output values of the curves become half a maximum value respectively is obtained, whereby a thermal diffusion coefficient is obtained according to a calculation formula.
