To provide an apparatus and a method for sucking capable of surely sucking without leakage of air even an inorganic plate having a narrow valley width and a deep ruggedness on a surface when the plate is to be transferred.
The apparatus for sucking the inorganic plate (4) comprises a suction box (1), a sponge sheet (2), and a suction means (3). In this case, the sheet (2) is arranged on suction surface (9) of the box (1). The means (3) has an exhausting function and a gas guiding function in the box (1). The means (3) makes the box (1) contact with the plate (4) via the sheet (2) from above to exhaust/guide in the box (1) to suck/release the plate (4) to/from the box (1). A contact surface of the plate (4) of the sheet (2) is followed to a bottom of a valley of the ruggedness (6) of the plate (4) to suck the plate (4) by using the apparatus for sucking the plate (4) having a plurality of slits (5) provided on the contact surface of the plate (4).
