PURPOSE: To obtain an apparatus for producing an optical fiber preform excellent in deposition rate and sticking efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: In order to achieve such purpose, this invention provides an apparatus for producing an optical fiber preform as follows. Fine glass particles are blown on the outer periphery of a rotating target member 12 in a chamber 11 with a traversing oxyhydrogen burner 13, depositing the fine glass particles and obtaining a fine glass deposit substance. At least two evacuating systems for evacuating the fine glass particles floating in the chamber 11 are installed and an evacuation port 16 of the first evacuating system is provided in front on an extension line (L) of the oxyhydrogen burner 13 and the target member 12. An evacuation port 17 of the second evacuating system is obliquely installed in front on the extension line (L) under the extension line. A flame (13a) of the oxyhydrogen burner 13 is well rolled soot by an evacuation stream in the above-mentioned evacuation port 17. Thereby, deposition rate and sticking efficiency are improved.
