To provide a highly practical apparatus for treating chicken manure for carbonizing or incinerating the chicken manure, which does not require a large amount of fuel, has a high energy efficiency because the apparatus cracks a tar material and reuses the cracked gas as an auxiliary fuel, and is easy in maintenance because the necessity for cleaning discharge of the tar material is reduced.
There is provided a heavy gas cracking apparatus inside of a rotary kiln or directly in contact with a rotary kiln, the apparatus being filled with a nickel catalyst including a nickel-carrying brown coal and a nickel-carrying alumina or an VIII group metal-based catalyst such as an iron catalyst containing limonite, these catalysts promoting the cracking of a heavy gas which is produced by heat treatment and is a tar material at ordinary temperature, wherein there is provided a facility which can use the cracked gas discharged from the heavy gas cracking apparatus as an auxiliary fuel, and wherein the heat treatment temperature is in the range of 500 to 700°C.
