To provide a garbage treating apparatus provided with an unit for preventing the wrong operation of the garbage treating apparatus and an unit for removing and deodorizing the malodorous component contained in the exhaust gas from a treating tank of the garbage treating apparatus.

This garbage treating apparatus 1 is constituted so that garbage and a microorganism are thrown in the treating tank 3 and agitated by an agitating means arranged in the tank 3 to decompose the thrown garbage by the microorganism. The apparatus 1 is provided with a mechanism 26 for measuring the weight of the garbage to be thrown and a buzzer 27 having a reporting mechanism for making a report when the measured weight exceeds the prescribed amount and a lock means arranged on the cover 9 of a feeding port 4 for precluding the garbage from being thrown until the prescribed treating time necessary for decomposing the thrown garbage by the microorganism has passed.
