Abstract:
PURPOSE: To detect defects such as flaws and stains on the outer circumference of an cylindrical object automatically by image processing.
CONSTITUTION: An appearance inspection device of a cylindrical object turns a cylindrical object to be inspected and fetches through a TV camera image information as obtained by dividing the outer circumferential surface of the object to be inspected axially in plurality to add up a luminance component of split image information. A defect is determined to exist at a part corresponding to a value at which the luminance component added exceeds a specified threshold. When the luminance component is added up, a non-judgment window with which a mask is applied to a character symbol part described on the surface of the object to be inspected and a window for judging defects of a part where no character symbol is described are set separately. This mechanism allows the setting of the threshold freely depending on the details of a defect.
