To obtain an aqueous coating composition for metals, excellent in water resistance, processability, storage (preservation) stability, solvent resistance and low temperature curability, giving coating films having high hardness and excellent in various kinds of physical properties.
This aqueous coating composition comprises (A) an aqueous polymer having carboxyl groups, a basic compound and (B) an aqueous polymer having oxazoline groups. The aqueous polymer (A) is obtained by polymerizing a monomer composition containing a monomer having a carboxyl group. The aqueous polymer (B) is obtained by polymerizing a monomer composition containing an oxazoline derivative such as 2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline. The coating composition is suitable e.g. as a coating material for PCM, cans, etc.
