This aqueous composition is obtained by including a sulfonated polyester type hydrophilic gelling agent in water phase. The sulfonated polyester type hydrophilic gelling agent is a water-soluble or water-dispersible terephthalic acid copolyester oligomer consisting essentially of a dicarboxylate recurring unit of the formula: [CO-A-CO-O-(CH2CH2O)n] [A is 1,4phenylene, sulfo-1,3- phenylene or the like; (n) is 1-4] and has <20 000 weight-average molecular weight. The composition further comprises at least one sulfoisophthalic acid copolyester dispersed in water phase. The terephthalic acid copolyester oligomer is preferably contained in an amount of preferably 0.5-40 wt.% based on total weight of composition.
