Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To aim at prolonging a lifetime by effectively suppressing generation of a leakage caused by peeling off of a molybdenum foil in an arc tube comprised that the both members are joined with a pinch seal in a state that the molybdenum foil is inserted into inside of an arc tube main body made of fused quartz.
SOLUTION: This is constituted that a junction of an arc tube body 20 and a molybdenum foil 30 is made so that not less than 105 N/m2 of compressive stress remains along the joint surface o the arc tube body 20 at room temperature. By this, even if the stress is fluctuated on the joint surface due to repeated on-and-off lighting of the arc tube, the compressive stress is always made to be generated in the arc tube body 20 (or even if the compressive stress and tensile stress are alternately generated, the value of the tensile stress is made to be extremely small) so as to increase a junction force of the both members. Further, plural cracks (grain boundary cracks) are made to be generated on the molybdenum foil 30 by a large pressure acting at a time of pinch sealing, and also by the fact that the fused quartz is made to be inserted into these cracks, the junction force of both members is increased.
