Abstract:

PURPOSE: To stabilize the arc and improve welding workability by giving a bending habit to a consumable electrode wire, allowing it to contact the outlet of a current conducting tip and directing the arc to the welding centerline.

CONSTITUTION: Straightening rolls 6 are disposed on the side just before feed rolls 2, to straighten the irregular bends of a wire 1 and give a bending habit in the prescribed direction. The wire 1 fed into a tip 3 by the feed rolls 2 abuts on the inside surface of the end of the tip 3 and deforms within the elastic range while receiving restraint, thereby assuming roughly a linear shape in the current conducting tip 3. After it emerges from the tip 3, it restores the bending habit and is fed by being bent in a prescribed direction. The wire 1 always contacts the inside surface in the end part of the tip 3 owing to the bending habit, and since it is pressed to the inside surface of the tip by the spring effect of the wire 1, the current conducting point does not change and even if the inside surface of the tip wears, there is no possibility for causing defective current conduction. The bending habit given to the wire 1 so bends the wire that the arc directs approximately onto the welding centerline, thereby making the penetration uniform over the entire part of the groove width.
