Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a high luminescent efficiency to be realized by forming an organic luminescent layer containing a specific aromatic hydrocarbon compound. SOLUTION: The organic luminescent layer is formed from a composition prepared by compounding 100 pts.wt. aromatic hydrocarbon compound represented by formula II (e.g. a compound represented by formula I) with 0.1-20 pts.wt. rebonding-site-forming substance (e.g. a styrylamine compound) having a fluorescent quantum yield of 0.3-1.0. The electroluminescent element comprises a pair of electrodes and the organic luminescent layer interposed between the electrodes. The aromatic hydrocarbon compound is prepared by converting a halide represented by formula II into a Grignard reagent and coupling the agent to a dibromo compound represented by formula IV. In the formulas, Ar1 and Ar2 are each arylene or a 4-30C hetrocycle containing O, N, S, or Si; Ar3 and Ar4 are each aryl or a 4-30C hetrocycle containing O, N, S, or Si; R is a bonding site to form a ring together with Ar2 or Ar3; n is 0-2; and m is 0 or 1.
