Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a perfuming composition, comprising a specific macrolide as a aromatic ingredient combining with a aromatic auxiliary ingredient, a solvent or an adjuvant. SOLUTION: This aromatic composition comprises a macrolide of formula I (R is H or methyl) having one double bond in one of positions indicated by the dotted lines together with a aromatic auxiliary ingredient, a solvent or an adjuvant. The macrolide of formula I is preferably a mixture and preferably contains at least 70wt.% macrolide in which the double bond has an (E) configuration in formula I. A 11-tetradecen-14-olide or a mixture thereof with a 12- tetradecen-14-olide, above all, a mixture containing about 80wt.% (E)-11- tetradecen-14-olide is preferred. The compound of formula I is obtained by cleaving a hydroperoxide of formula II in the presence of a catalytic amount of a copper complex or a salt soluble in a reactional medium in an inert organic solvent and enlarging the ring (fragmentation).
