Abstract:
PURPOSE: To shorten the data writing processing time by preparing the data blocks of different sizes and selecting one of the data blocks that has a proper size according to the size of the relevant data to be recorded.
CONSTITUTION: An array type recording device is provided with four disks D1, D2, D3 and D4 which record the data or the redundant data. Each device has the blocks 1-6 of the sizes of 512 bytes, the blocks 7-10 of the sizes of 1k bytes, and the blocks 11 and 12 of the sizes of 2k bytes respectively. For instance, the data D12 having the size of 640 bytes is recorded in two areas of 512 bytes. Under such conditions, the access efficiency is deteriorated because the data D12 is recorded over two disks D1 and D2. Therefore an MPU refers to an area table 20 to select a block of a 1k-byte area larger than a 512-byte area, that is, the block 7 of the disk D1.
