To shorten the length of an article vertical aligning conveyor for arranging articles in a line in a device which aligns articles which are fed from a chute onto a feed conveyor at random in a line, carries them away, and carries them out from the conveyor.
The roller 26 of an alignment head 24 is inclined. A guiding surface 28 of the alignment head 24 is moved faster in the same direction as the alignment head by a pulley 32. An article on stripping conveyor side among the articles is stripped by a stripping conveyor 36. The article is joined at the alignment head 24 through a recirculating head 34, a returning conveyor 38 and a combining conveyor 40 on the upstream side. As a result, the article advances to the guiding surface 28 side. The articles aligned along the guiding surface 28 are fed to a carry-away conveyor 22.
