Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new application of compost made from organic wastes including garbage as the raw material, and to provide artificial culture soil suitable for growing plants.
SOLUTION: This artificial culture soil is obtained by incorporating compost, as necessary with another soil modifier or ordinary culture soil, and optionally a fertilizer; wherein the compost is such that, on a dry basis, the carbon content is ≤30 mass%, nitrogen content is ≤3 mass%, carbon rate (C/N) is ≤20, water- soluble phenol level is ≤3 mM and reducing sugar proportion is ≤20%; the compost is obtained by mixing at least one kind selected from garbage, sewage sludge and livestock excreta with cellulosic waste material and/or woody waste material followed by fermenting the resultant mixture.
