Abstract:
PURPOSE: To enhance a bonding strength of porous surface layer by bond-joining the porous surface layer onto the surface of metal transplanting piece's main body via a thin layer of thermoplastic polymer for artificial transplanting pieces made for replacing part of patient's joints with such pieces. CONSTITUTION: An artificial hip joint pedicle transplanting piece 20 for putting into the femur's pith lever, for example, is provided to its metal-made main body 21 with a porous surface layer 22 made to a net-like form to promote the endogeneous growth and to enhance fixing the piece 20 transplanted into the bond. In such a transplanting piece 20, the porous surface layer 22 is made so as to be bond-joined onto the surface of transplanting piece's main body 21 via a thin layer 24 of thermoplastic polymer that can be obtained by diffusing at a substantially lower temperature than those for the transplanting piece's main body 21 and the porous surface layer 22. A semi-crystal polymer is used for this purpose, and it is relected as well from a family of polyaryletherketone. This obtains a very solid porous surface layer 22.
