Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide two kinds of new astaxanthin intermediates which can be used for directly preparing astaxanthin, without use of peracids.
CONSTITUTION: The objective intermediates are the compound of formula I (R1-R3 are each 1-6C alkyl or phenyl), e.g. 1-(4-hydroxy-3-oxo-2,6,6-trimethyl-1- cyclohexene-1-yl)-3-methyl-trimethylsiloxy-1,4-pentadiene and a compound of formula II (R' is alkyl, alkoxy, NO2, NH2 or halogen), e.g. 1-(4-hydroxy-3- oxo-2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexane-1-yl)-3-methyl-5-benzenesulfonyl-1,3-pentadiene. The compound of the formula I is obtained by oxidizing a compound of formula III with a compound of the formula IV. Further, the compound of formula II is obtained by reacting the compound of formula I with a compound of the formula V. Astaxanthin of formula VI is obtained through five step via the new compound of formula I or II.
