Disclosed are unsymmetrical squaraine compounds of the following formula wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl heterocyclic, benzyl, and halobenzyl; and X1, X2 and X3 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, halogen, carboxy, and hydroxy; and photoresponsive imaging members having incorporated therein the aforementioned squaraine compounds.
