PURPOSE: To limit the tilting range of a select lever according to the travel state of an automobile.

CONSTITUTION: In an AT selector, a detent pin 3 protruding in a vertically movable state from a tiltable select lever 2 is inserted through a detent hole 5, and the tilt angle of the select lever 2 can be fixed or changed by the engagement or detachment between the detent pin 3 and the uneven end face 8 of the detent hole 5. A plurality of independent closing blocks 9, 10 are provided in a protruding/receding state to the respective parts of the moving areas S1, S2 of the detent pin 3 in the detent hole 5. The stop positions of the closing blocks 9, 10 are changed variously according to the travel state of an automobile so as to diversely limit the moving area of the detent pin 3 to the detent hole 5. A tilting range is thereby limited so that there is no misoperation of the select lever 2, and excessive force is prevented from being applied to the driving system of the automobile such as a transmission so as to be able to suppress the consumption of parts.
