Abstract:

To provide an audio encoding method and a device, capable of shortening processing time of quantization and variable encoding by reducing the number of loop controls of quantization distortion.

The device, which in the case of digitally compressing audio information, evaluates the quantization distortion amount after quantization and the encoding amount after encoding, and updates the quantization step by loop processing, until proper evaluation results are obtained, comprises an initial value control means 3a for carrying out optimization control of the initial value of the search window of the quantization step.
