PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reduction in print quality or device defects by permitting and authenticating only appropriate consumable supplies.SOLUTION: An authentication device comprises: first collation means that collates first collation information generated by a main body device 2 on the basis of consumable supply storage information stored in an ink cartridge 150 with second collation information generated on the basis of the consumable supply storage information and stored in a memory 153 of the ink cartridge 150; second collation means that collates third collation information generated by the main body device 2 on the basis of acquisition information on the main body device 2 with fourth collation information generated on the basis of acquisition information on the ink cartridge 150, and stored in the memory 153 of the ink cartridge 150; and authentication means 16 that, when it is determined that collation results by the first to second collation means all coincide with each other, permits and authenticates the ink cartridge 150.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
