Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable level - output characteristics of an eddy current type molten metal level indicator to be calibrated accurately, measurement accuracy to be improved, its calibration to be performed automatically for each mold, operation of continuous casting to be performed stably, productivity to be improved, and at the same time a slab with an improved quality to be manufactured. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal level from starting of casting to a steady molten metal level is simultaneously measured by an eddy current type molten metal level indicator 15 and a float type level indicator 12. A level L - output V (L) characteristic curve of the eddy current type molten metal level indicator 15 until now is calibrated according to this measurement result. Then, a fine calibration which is requested when the molten metal level is at a steady state is performed by allowing the molten metal level to fluctuate by vibrating a sliding nozzle 17, etc., and then compensating the level L - output V (L) calibration curve so that a fluctuation width at that time is equal at different two or more molten metal levels.
