Abstract:
PURPOSE:To accurately make judgment whether a portrait or a landscape is taken with a focusing value. CONSTITUTION:This automatic focusing device for a camera, has a first calculating means (S2) calculating a first focusing value as the focusing value of the closest distance, from plural focusing values, a judging means (S3) judging the level of the first focusing value with respect to a threshold value, a second calculating means (S5) calculating a second focusing value as the averaged value of plural focusing values, and drives a photographic lens by using the first focusing value when the judging means (S3) judges that the first focusing value is smaller than the threshold value, and by using the second focusing value, when the first focusing value is larger than the threshold value, as a characteristic of this system.
