The automatic mailing machine is constituted of a thrawing-in port for slowing in registered mails, an image input part 13 for inputting image in a character information describing area for sender's name and receiver's name described on the surface of the registered mail thrown in from the charging port, a display part 16 for displaying the image inputted by the inputting means 13, a touch sensor 17 arranged in the front of the display part 16, and a control part 10 for recognizing characters in a specified area specified by the sensor 17. A specified area out of the picture displayed on the display part 16 is specified by the sensor 17, character information in the specified area is extracted and analyzed by the control part 10 to recognize the sender's name and the receiver's name and the sender's and receiver's names are printed out on a receipt, so that the receipt is issued and the mailing of the registered mail is received.
