The automatic vending machine also includes: a rack selection mechanism 40 that, in a standby mode, controls every commodity rack 30a-30d to prevent every commodity being taken out therefrom, and when a vending command is given, permits a commodity being taken out from a step only in a specified commodity rack 30a-30d; a take-out mechanism 50 that, in an ordinary state, prevents a commodity from being taken out from a commodity storage column 31, and when the rack selection mechanism 40 permits a commodity to be taken out, operates to permit only a commodity located in the front to be taken out; and regulation means 60 that, when a commodity is permitted to be taken out from commodity racks 30a-30d, permits one of the take-out mechanisms 50 to perform the operation.
