To provide an automobile bumper beam excellently absorbing the energy of impacts in a collision.
The bumper beam 1 includes a front piece 1a made of a plate- shaped member to form a front surface, an upper body 1b extending rearwardly from the upper part of the front piece 1a, and a lower body 1c separated from the upper body 1b and extending rearwardly from the lower part of the front piece 1a. The upper body 1b has an upper piece 1e connecting with the upper end of the front piece 1a, and the lower body 1c similarly has a lower piece 1h connecting with the lower end of the front piece 1a. The front piece 1a is formed in a projecting shape on its cross section perpendicular to its longitudinal direction, and the front piece 1a, the upper piece 1e and the lower piece 1h connect with one another to form an obtuse angle. In a collision, the bumper beam 1 tends to maintain the obtuse angle, with its rear section opened in such a manner that the upper body 1b and the lower body 1c separate from each other as the front piece 1a collapses.
