To play a DVD bought in a second country when an AV player is brought from a first country to the second country in the AV player for reproducing a voice signal and/or an image signal from a recording medium such as a DVD set to playing permission depending on each region such as a country.
The AV player is provided with a storing means 42 for storing a region code set for the AV player, a signal reproducing means 20 for reproducing a voice signal and/or an image signal when a region code set in a recording medium corresponds to the region code set in the AV player, a receiving means 30 for obtaining information used to determine a region where the AV player is present based on a received electric wave, and a control means 41 for updating the region code set in the AV player based on the information obtained by the receiving means 30.
